In my opinion, there is nothing better than a hand written love letter for Valentine’s there. Give me sweet words from my love over roses and jewelry any day, but there is an art to it. If you’re considering putting all of your thoughts on paper for the one you love, here are just a few tips to make it that much more special:
PAPER
Handmade paper is always the way to go in my opinion. Arturo makes beautiful card stock if you are into simple and plain. Or if you want something with a little bit of color, Paper Source has a gorgeous collection of handmade papers from throughout the world. I love to hand tear this paper for an added sense of detail. A fine tipped pen and haphazard cursive will give it an old world feel as well.
CONTENTS
In the letter, I recommend covering past, present and future. Mention the moment you knew you were in love, or if you’re not that far along, consider talking about your favorite memory from the first date. Mention a detail about your person they might never realize you even noticed.
For the present, express how that person makes you feel. If you’re in a new phase, talk of goosebumps, butterflies and heart drops. If further along, express the love that is overcoming you.
For the future, don’t over promise, but mention a detail about something you envision doing together. Whether it’s mentioning your future marriage or as simple as what you may want to do together the next time you’re intimate.
SEALING
I always recommend including a kiss stamp or spritz of perfume. Roll the paper like a scroll and bind it with ribbon or simply fold in half and hide it in your person’s pocket.
Love letters are so personal and the most important thing is the sentiment, but if you take a little extra time to select the right presentation, it not only becomes sweet words, but something they will cherish for the rest of their lives.
